3. I bow, of course, to the decision of the Rt: Hon: the Secretary of State, but it places me in a serious dilemma, for my doctor advises me that I ought not to return to Hongkong, after my illness there, this time last year, when I

was not expected.to live. If, therefore, I am unable to obtain a transfer to a better climate, I can see no course open to me save applying for pension from the Colony. This is a course which I am very loth to adopt, as I consider that the thirty two years.I have spent in the Government service justly entitle me to something more substantial than the £230 a year, or therea- -boots, which is the utmost I can expect to receive
